A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a system of mapping that uses digital information to create maps. Information in GIS can use vector (where the computer is told how to define an area) or raster (which uses data expressed as points). GIS provides the flexibility to organize information in ways that are difficult with printed maps. Here are some links to GIS mapping online.
